A recent stop off at RnRV in Silverdale to see the latest Carthago motorhome really got us going. It’s not often we step into a motorhome these days and see something that is new with regard to layout design and one that rings our bells as much as this model did.

This rear lounge is so well appointed – from the cabinet drawer and cupboard storage on the left, bench top above, LED light, shelves above up to the overhead locker storage cupboards. The table is fully adjustable

Paul and Rochelle were so proud to show us the Carthago Liner-for-two before the new owners picked it up – and we were seriously impressed. There are so many design features in this model, I will have to let the photos and Tech Spec’s do the talking, and even they are just some of the features – there are so many we can’t list them all.

What a good-looking home, stunning modern kitchen fit out opposite the entry door, big fridge/freezer unit with gas cooker overhead on the left, spacious C-shaped lounge living at the rear. Under-sink drawers are big, soft close and well finished. The extra bench space created by the ‘wave’ shelf at the end is useful for food preparation, but also acts as a nice break line to the rear living area. Lots of space here, and LED strip lighting is attractive as well

The habitation entry door is mid-vehicle. A push of the button from the interior or front cab extends the electric step out. Quality steel hinges with triple locking mechanisms, along with fly screen and blind, make for an impressive entrance into the vehicle.

The kitchen storage options are impressive; large drawers with cutlery within, pull out pantries both sides, plus fitted rubbish bins - and topped off with a quality Corian bench top

Directly opposite the entry is the sexiest kitchen setup yet, with lots of desirable storage options. The left end of the L-shaped kitchen bench holds a pull-out storage compartment with shelves plus two fitted rubbish bins, and the top makes for an extra work surface if required.

Above is a beautifully curved servery bench finished in the shape of a vertical wave (a nod to the motorhome’s overall nautical theme) that goes over the main bench top and up the wall to separate the kitchen from the rear lounge area. Opening the top cupboard here reveals a coffee machine on the shelf – nice.

The really lovely Corian drop-edge bench surface is fitted with a stainless-steel round sink, flush mounted in the worktop, with a one-piece multipurpose sink cover – flush work surface, cutting board, as well as a sink cover. The tap even has an extendable spray head. The gas hob cooker with lid is to the right; a window behind, and range hood below the overhead storage cupboards with shelves within. To the right is a lovely curved wall with another pull-out pantry storage unit.

A nautical theme to the large easy-read dials, monitors and controls all in one area above the entry door

Under bench are the large drawers – with electrical central locking to keep securely closed while travelling – with ‘Flex’ drawer organiser for individual arrangement of drawers and separate drawer for cutlery with separate 30L freezer on top, above that there is a Dometic ‘Tec-Tower’ oven and Grill unit. To the left of entry is the large 160L three-way fridge with separate 30L freezer above. Control panel and monitors are above the entry door.

View from bed head showing TV position, windows, mid-ship bathroom with en suite toilet on the right and full sized shower on the left. Privacy door shuts off the main living area

To the right of the kitchen (towards the front), the separate en suite bathroom is on the left, an incredible looking shower to the right with the coolest rain shower head in the overhead vent, and LED lighting around, with a privacy door to shut the living area off. There’s wardrobe storage between the shower and the front bedroom area.

At the push of a button the bed unpacks itself and descends to shut off the front cab area completely. Steps come out of the cupboard for bed entry. The steps have storage in them as well, so all spaces used

The front bedroom includes another really unique feature with drawers and sideboards for storage, and step-through to the cab seating – or press the button and the cleverly fitted ceiling bed comes down to fill in the space completely with a bed setup that can be two singles or a large combined bed of 2000x2100mm.

Fully adjustable height and angle Carthago seats with armrests and built-in headrests. Plenty of storage and drink holders in this cab setup. Insulated privacy blinds fitted on all windows

Underfloor heating via an ALDE heating system, heating is circulated through the entire vehicle around the walls and even in the double floor, makes for a cosy, healthy interior living space.

Driver’s side has drink holder, 7″ reversing camera monitor, central heating thru the vents on the right edge

The exterior build is classic Carthago with quality design features all around. This model has a little extra feature in the boot (which by the way holds up to 450kg payload): remove a panel to access a dropped floor space designed for the secure storage of a scooter or bicycle. To complement this, a section in the top of the garage will lift to allow for a higher load, i.e. bike handle bars. All the electrics live in the heated boot area. Extra outdoor shower in here as well.

Passenger entry door: what a good-looking door, fitted window privacy blinds, storage and easy step up into the expansive cab area

Segmented side skirts are made from easy to repair powder coated aluminium extruded profiles. GRP bus rear with insulated rear sandwich wall (separate rear bumper, also easy to repair in the event of any damage). The completely wood-free body shell’s roof outer-shell GRP acts as hail protection.

Good-looking main cabin door, central locking including remote control in the ignition key with ‘coming home’ function

Floor panel with GRP top and bottom: moisture and stone chipping protection, rot resistant. Side walls/rear wall: aluminium on outside and inside. Side roof-rack system for easy accessory attachment and rain deflection. Roof surface can be walked on. Total wall and roof thickness 38mm. Ten-year leak-free guarantee.

The garage is unique; the floor has an inset hole for the front bike wheel to slot into, the top folds back for handle bars if required

Durafix double-connection technology: all furniture components bolted and mortised: durable joins, top stability and permanent quietness without annoying rattling during travel. Solid metal, household-quality holder rods, hinges and rails.

Exterior hot-cold shower in the heated garage area

This model can be upgraded to a three-axle Fiat chassis or the even heavier IVECO Daily rear-wheel drive chassis base (5800kg GVM). There are options for interior colours and fabrics. Add in cocktail cabinets or head rests, have two extra seat belts fitted for passengers and take the table conversion for the rear bed option for two extra berths, so you can order this model as a four-berth option.

The A-Class model is a good-looking beast

We spent a couple of hours in this vehicle. We both loved it, and I’d have to set aside about 10 pages in this magazine to tell you about all the amazing features it has. What a beautiful apartment on wheels this model is – the rear lounge is our favourite layout. If I have whet your appetite at all and you’re looking to spend around the $300k mark for a new motorhome to live in (you will want to), this is a must-view model.

The Dolce Gusto coffee machine sits well in the cupboard
