The RangeThere is a bit of a buzz around Levin, Gipsy RV Centre are undertaking a rebrand to Levin RV Centre. When owners Brian and Varee Anderson purchased the motorhome and caravan sales side of Gipsy Caravans in July 2018 this business became Gipsy RV Centre.
Robin and Wendy Croot still own Gipsy Caravans with son David running the factory site, daughter Nicola managing the admin and Lisa running the retail parts and accessories shop.
Brian worked for Gipsy Caravans over 30 years ago selling new and second-hand motorhomes and caravans. He left for other pastures and returned to Gipsy in 2015. In July 2018 Brian purchased the sales side of the business from Robin and Wendy Croot.
Today Levin RV Centre offer a range of second-hand RVs and are agents for the DeLuxe Group brands – the Pilote French-built motorhomes, the Winnebago Australian-built motorhomes, Bailey’s caravans from the UK – and now Levin RV are the authorised distributor for the Melbourne-built luxury Royal Flair caravan range.
The Rock and I dropped in to visit Brian in July, just in time to hear about and view this new-to-the-New-Zealand-market range of Australian-built caravans. Royal Flair are manufactured in Melbourne. The Deralas family established the caravan manufacturing business in 1975 and Billy Deralas owns and runs the business today.
There are six different models available initially, the Royal Flair Piazza Sky-deck, Designer Series, the range-topping Van Royce, fully off road Raptor, Family Flair and the PD Series. There are nine ranges of caravans available with different models in each range. Levin RV Centre currently has on order 6 models from 6 different ranges of caravans to give customers a variety of options which Brian feels will meet his customers needs.
At the NZMCA Motorhome Caravan Show Levin RV Centre will have on display the Royal Flair Piazza 18’6”, Designer Series 23’ and the Fully Off Road Raptor 14’6”. At the NZMCA Motorhome and Caravan show at Mystery Creek in September, Mr Deralas and Scotty from Royal Flair will be on the Levin RV Centre stand with Brian and Varee, a great opportunity for visitors to talk directly to the manufacturer of this product.
The three models we viewed are two berth and aimed at the higher end of the market, with each model offering something quite different. The top-of-the-line Van Royce model has slide-out options for either the bedroom, or dining area – your choice. The interior of this model has high-gloss black finishes with white and sultry dark brown leather seating.
Natural wood benches add to the luxury apartment feel to this model. The Designer Series model has more contemporary greys and white complementing the floor and furnishings palette.
Here we look at the innovative, cleverly designed Royal Flair Piazza Sky-deck model. I am sure it will get a lot of people excited around the country. Customers can choose their own interior schemes with benchtops, cupboards and squab fabrics, a nice way to personalise the space.
The Piazza has a really useful, strong, good-looking deck that drops down from the nose of the caravan over the drawbar; you simply unclip the aerodynamic nose front and lift it up, dropping the deck down. Lift the safety sides up and you have added a decent 4.5sqm of undercover living space to enjoy, complete with TV, power, lights, overhead cover and semi-solid sides. Brilliant for pets and kids, and so quick and easy to set up and put away – there is a video on the website and Facebook for those interested.
The habitation entry door to the caravan is on the kerb side of the vehicle, forward of the twin-axle wheel arch, a pretty cool Vista Keyless entry door, with separate fly-screen. A dropped internal step, with grab handle on the right, brings you into the caravan; cupboard to the left with a washing machine within, large fridge/freezer unit opposite entry.
On the right wall we have the long kitchen bench with full gas oven, separate grill, three-burner gas hob and one electric with a bench lid cover.
Opposite is a second large bench area with multiple drawers underneath, as well as cupboard space, and the 24˝ Smart TV with built-in Freeview and DVD player is mounted on the wall in this space. It has an automatic satellite dish. Good wardrobe and cupboard storage to the left between here and the fridge unit. To the rear a large-sized U-shaped lounge with large side windows.
The rear is built-in storage, the table is fully adjustable, and with a touch of the button the hidden ceiling bed drops down into place, right down to squab height so no ladder required to get into bed. LED lighting is fitted both in the ceiling above the bed and in the bottom of the bed for when it is in the raised position. There is Webasto diesel heating with vents around the caravan – like central heating – and a sleek air-con unit fitted in the roof along with three roof vents provides ventilation for those really hot days.
The interior finishes have a high-gloss finish, both the cabinetry and the walls, and customers can choose from a range of colours as well as fabric choices to customise the caravan to their personality. There are a range of upgrades and options to meet most people’s needs in these vehicles. The Royal Flair company prides themselves on making their caravans perfect for the individual consumer. Different floor plans are available for each model line.
These models offer a lot for the caravan buyer, but they’re certainly not entry point caravans; as the price reflects, these models are for the discerning customer who wants luxury, strength, and good looks with all the extras but strong on sizeable living spaces, all in a compact van for towing.
Admittedly, as with all Australian-built caravans, this is not a caravan for the small tow vehicle; you will need a 3500kg tow-rated vehicle for this 3176kg luxury home on wheels – but what a home it is.
Visit Brian at Levin RV Centre if you’re in the lower North Island, or take the opportunity to view all three models at the Hamilton NZMCA Motorhome, Caravan and Leisure show at Mystery Creek September 20–22. Meet Mr Billy Deralas the owner of Royal Flair and find out more about these models directly from the owner.
