While on the South Auckland Caravans yard checking out the Airstream I looked through a couple of other caravans they had lined up. In particular I looked at the Jayco Silverline Outback caravan, a full-width nose kitchen, massive 216L fridge/freezer unit, L-shaped dining area with separate wall couch, with a lounge and bedroom slide-out, to a full-width large bathroom complete with full-sized shower box and even a 3kg washing machine.

The AL-KO chassis

Lots of these features we expect from the biggest RV manufacturer in Australia; both their motorhomes and caravans have led the way in design and build in Aussie for over 40 years. Jayco developed their current exterior construction over 10 years ago now – bonded sandwich panel walls with no wooden framing, but with the exterior lining, insulation, and interior linings bonded for integrity and strength, eliminating the wooden frame method used for many years and by many manufacturers.

Jayco designed their JTECH Suspension system to carry their vehicles on and off the rugged outback Australian roads that their customers travel on regularly.

Stepping up into the caravan kitchen is full width to the left in the nose of the caravan, 241L fridge-freezer opposite; dining seating that converts to spare bed, another lounge opposite, bedroom separates by curtain, and full width rear bathroom

And in 2019 they have stepped up their game in the field of digital technology with apps to run control panels, monitor batteries, open and close your awning, turn lights on and off with voice controls and more.

We take a peek into this luxury-model caravan with all the latest possible bells and whistles.

The slide-out kitchen for cooking and washing up outside is great, still inside is a storage drawer that pulls out as well, so handy

The RV Connect Package

The digital switching JHub touchscreen system from BMPRO, exclusive to Jayco Caravans, is the next generation of app-driven control hubs for managing your caravan’s onboard features, using Bluetooth connectivity and Wi-Fi convenience

JHub gives you total control of your RV. This all-in-one control panel brings together the next generation of RV technology in one central, easy-to-use interface. The control panel gives you easy access to all features of your Silverline’s power, climate and water systems.

The full width bathroom, plenty of storage, the lift-up lid in the corner is home to a 3kg washing machine, toilet is electric flush cassette; full-sized shower on the right out of shot

You can:

See at a glance, how quickly your battery power is being used and what’s using it
Check current solar-charge rates
Change settings on the water heating and lighting systems
Check the levels of the fresh and grey water tanks
Monitor the Silverline’s temperature.

Amazon Alexa Voice Control – In a world-first for a production RV, your own personal assistant, Amazon Alexa, comes standard. Connect your account, switch on the lights, get the latest weather forecasts and control your TV with a simple voice command. Made possible by the Wi-Fi extender technology which captures Wi-Fi signals at a significantly increased range.

The full-width kitchen offers full-sized oven with separate grill, four gas hobs, large inset sink, drawers and pull-out pantry storage, substantial storage in the overhead lockers, and a large microwave

A Carefree electric awning, manually operated or controlled via a smart phone app that allows programming of preset positions.

A full set of 360-degree side-vision cameras that Jayco say are a “world first in a production caravan” and will ensure there are “no blind spots when towing and parking”.

The slide-out encompasses the bed and lounge areas, increasing available floor space significantly. The lounge and dining area offer two places to relax

A hot-dip galvanised chassis for lifelong protection against corrosion and better resistance to bending and compression, while also safeguarding underfloor wiring and plumbing. Each JTECH Suspension system includes:

Electro-coated surfaces for optimal protection against corrosion and stone chips
Individual stub axles, bearings and brakes, ALKO Electronic Stability Control
Large-diameter, heavy-duty Pedders off-road shock absorbers and coil springs designed specifically for Jayco RVs and Australian conditions
Aeon rubber springs inside each coil spring, producing a progressive rate when the suspension is compressed; and
Toe-in and toe-out adjustment for wheel alignment. The Jayco Endurance Chassis, JTECH Suspension replaces beam axles with individual stub axles, allowing each wheel to react independently to the road surface, while lessening the chassis’ un-sprung weight.

Exterior construction

Jayco states that their multi-layered, vacuum-bonded walls are stronger than those of conventional ‘timber and tin’ aluminium-clad caravans, while offering greater thermal and acoustic insulation. Silverline models feature the five-layer system, comprising internal wall ply, insulation, aluminium frame, external 3mm ply and high-gloss fibreglass exterior.

The slide-out gas cooker and kitchen sink are fantastic, but more so the additional storage bin that slides out above; and the slide-out drawer for the gas bottles is fantastic as well. These models also have the Ezylevel system to take drama out of levelling the vehicle up
