The luxury liners from MORELO and Niesmann+Bischoff have all the bells and whistles imaginable, while the Frankia and Dethleffs range of motorhomes boast entry-level prices and spec’d options from the ex-rental McRent stock, all with low kilometres and a price point under $125K. Brand new models across the brands cover a wide range right through to those with luxury top-of-the-line options.
Zion have grown significantly since 2012 and the Pōkeno showroom is a reflection of this, as are the diggers on the land next door scraping out the start of the expansion to the sales yard. With up to 150 motorhomes per year projected to be coming in, the business needs all the space it can get.
Today we take a look at a Dethleffs Globeline D motorhome that sits just under the seven-metre length mark. This model has two single beds in the rear but, with a pull-out extension, can also be a large double – so multifunctional. There is a second spare bed in the overhead ceiling of the dining/entry area.
Upon entry through the habitation door on the driver’s (right) side of the vehicle, we notice straightaway this doorway is wider, 700mm to be exact. The kitchen is directly to the left, an extra bench shelf lifts up on this end. The front cab seats swivel to the rear for added seating around the removable, fully adjustable table. The dinette seats are fitted with seat belts.
Compact kitchen unit, good-sized tower fridge unit next to it. Bathroom is opposite, pedestal 12V electric flush cassette toilet, storage options and mirrored cabinet available, separate shower to the left. Step up into the rear bedroom area to the elevated bed space offering two single beds, or large double.
Plenty of storage underneath this area – the large storage boot area is below, the reason for the height. LED mood lighting is nice, with plenty of individual lights for personal use.
A great vehicle for two people, maybe the occasional stay-over visitor. Big storage in that rear boot, quality German build in an easy drive size, based on the top-of-the-line chassis in RV terms, the Mercedez-Benz, which has all sorts of smart technology to aid the driver.
