Pre65 Racing Saloons are one of the most popular support classes currently running in NZ motorsport. There are approximately 50 vehicles running in North or South Island series at the moment. The cars are as the name suggests, restricted to vehicles produced before the 31st Dec 1965. They must retain their original bodies, blocks, cranks, heads and use gearbox and differential housings in production before Dec 1965. Ventilated brake rotors and limited slip differentials are not allowed and the cars must run on a one-make road tyre. However contrary to what many people think they are not simply ‘hotted up’ classics. They are pure racecars, in the most part developed to a point that most if not all are superior in performance to any similar car racing in the sixties.
