On our recent trip to Christchurch for the Outdoor and Motorhome show held in July, we spotted a new player in the fifth-wheeler market, the Dreamseeker model built in Wales. We chatted briefly with the importer, Keith McIver from the Fifth Wheel Company in Christchurch, who was very busy with show visitors eager to check out this new model.

First impressions were that this brand model is lower to the ground than typical fifth-wheeler units, the nose cone is aerodynamically styled for less drag when travelling, and the rear of the unit looks like a motorhome, being lower in height and square shaped. The habitation entry door is on the passenger (left) side of the vehicle, which Kiwis like, on the outside it opens to the right – many RV doors open to the left. There is an electric step for easy entry. The door has a fitted rubbish bin and a window with a blind and separate fly screen. Storage and utility lockers are fitted all around the unit, and there is a large slide-out on the right (driver’s) side of the unit.

A large (190L) Dometic fridge/freezer with microwave above, and full oven, separate grill and four gas hobs will satisfy most cooks. Storage drawer units plus cupboards above and below the sink bench offer plenty of options, and once again a large window to enjoy the outdoor views. Note also the splash-back-effect finish around the window, great for easy cleaning. Towards the rear of the vehicle the second entertainment area, a lounge settee with the glass cabinet, storage in overhead lockers and open storage on the left side; a large opening back window allows more light and views outside

On entry, to the left is the shower box area with en suite opposite, and in the nose cone (up steps) the separate bedroom with king-size island bed, wardrobes and storage – including bedside cabinets for bits and bobs.

The en suite has a swivel cassette pedestal toilet, vanity unit, mirrors and storage galore, a spacious area separate from the shower and bedroom, with privacy doors that can join or separate the areas as needed.

The blue LED strip lighting is a night-time option. The slide-out dining/entertainment area has a large window for views The bedroom in the nose, the en suite toilet on the right wall, storage cupboard and drawers, then the slide-out is shown extended out, a small step up, LED lighting above

Opposite the entry is the full dining/entertainment area slide-out which increases the living space considerably. The large C-shaped area can also convert to a good-sized bed as required. There are windows in the slide-out for light and ventilation as well as the all-important views to the outside.

Between the slide-out and the en suite is a storage unit with a large cupboard and two lower drawers, and the TV is mounted on its side facing towards the dining area in the slide-out.

A full-sized shower box, adjustable rose head, clip back bi-fold

Opposite the shower box is the separate en suite with swivel cassette toilet, vanity unit with quality fittings, plenty of storage options and a large mirror

To the right of the entry door is the kitchen, starting with the full-sized 190L fridge/freezer unit – what a beauty this is. Above, and set back to create a shelf, is a microwave – what a great idea.

The kitchen bench runs around 1500mm along the wall, backed by a large opening window surrounded by a warm red splash-back frame. There’s plenty of storage below and above, and the round stainless steel sink with quality tapware looks nice. A full-sized oven with separate grill and four gas hobs will satisfy the most demanding of cooks, I am sure.

A mini china cabinet for the all-important wine glasses, also with LED lighting

Across the rear of the unit is a comfortable lounge couch that converts to a single bed if required. The fancy cocktail cabinet for glasses is nice, and there is plenty of overhead storage space once again.

The flooring is hardwearing and easy to clean and looks good with the warm wood effect defining the floor space well, especially with the slide-out extended.
The mixture of wood and light-coloured high-gloss finishes on the cupboards and drawers works well and looks current and modern.

The island bed is fitted into the nose, which is common in fifth-wheel vehicles. Opening windows on each side, full-height wardrobe at the bedroom entry walls and bedside cabinets

All-in-all a good-looking unit, great for those wanting to this-sized living for extended periods on the road.

Keith tells us this is one of two models he is importing, the other being the Celtic Rambler, an 8.5m unit of similar quality. I look forward to seeing that in the upcoming months. Details of important things such as warranties and the like will need to be discussed with Keith directly.

A Reese Revolution fifth-wheel hitch unit connects to the towing vehicle. The island bed is in the luton area over the hitch, exterior storage area beneath. The 12V electrical slide-out has a double-seal neoprene and blade sealing system to keep this watertight
